I was looking for a picture to start off this page with. A picture that was a beautiful representation of the Gospel. I have just now scrolled through hundreds of pictures and could not find what I was looking for because of one glaring problem.
The absence of the cross.
There were incredible pictures of God’s creation with powerful, encouraging, moving words however I could not find the basis of the Gospel on any of them! Have we forgotten the cross?! I just started the book “Because He Loves Me” by Elyse Fitzpatrick and she says this in her introduction;
“In your pursuit of godliness, have you left Jesus behind?”
When I first read this I was kind of confused. Isn’t it Jesus we are pursuing when we are pursuing godliness. Now I understand and unfortunately I see it in my own life far too often! I get so preoccupied with this list of do’s and don’ts that I forget the whole purpose, Christlikeness. So how do we remedy this? Remember “…that GOd loves us so much that he crushed his Son so that we might be his and that this love isn’t based on our worthiness or performance.”
