Yes I admit it, I have one. I have a “future home” board on Pinterest. I like to sit on that site and imagine my future life and how perfect it’s going to be. My life, my husband, my home. I don’t think I’m alone in this.
One of perhaps the most valuable lessons I have learned in just these few days in NYC is probably from the most unsung hero of this ministry. Mrs. Jones. She does not have a Pinterest perfect home with little DIY projects sitting everywhere. She has a 200+ year old church building that honestly most of the time smells like rotten bananas. She doesn’t have granite countertops and designer curtains (or even an actual stove.) But what she does have is a home that pleases God.
Hundreds of needy people come through the doors of her home every week
…She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy…(Proverbs 31)
These people come in empty and leave again full, not just of food but of love.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting a nice home looking like a Pinterest pin but I no longer desire that anymore. I pray that God use our home to be a place of refuge, love, fellowship and self-sacrifice for whoever may come to us.
…Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised…
